At the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds This Fall, the Parking Lot Sets the Price

Once the OC Fair closes, the cost of a visit to 88 Fair Drive comes down mostly to two things: what day you go and whether you drive in. For most events outside the Fair, parking is a flat $15, cash only, with no in-and-out privileges, and you can't buy it ahead of time. Several events this fall charge nothing at the door, so that fee is often the most expensive part of the outing. Other events waive the parking fee on certain days.

On the fall 2026 calendar, the free visits fall on weekday mornings, and the $15 shows up on weekends.

This Thursday, October 15, the whole morning is free

The weekly Farmers Market sets up in Lot D every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and admission and parking are both free. It's certified by the OC Farm Bureau. The listing names produce, fresh flowers, fish, hummus, honey and hot sauce, plus hot lunch items like tamales, tacos and burritos.

On October 15, the same hours bring a second free event on the grounds. The Ranch Discovery Day runs 9 a.m. to noon at The Ranch Community Center. Admission and parking are free, but you need a reservation. The program includes meeting horses, chickens and rabbits, horse-care demonstrations, sessions on military horses and on bees, and a stick-horse rodeo for kids.

Many longtime locals still picture the old equestrian center when they hear "The Ranch." The OC Fair's March 18, 2026 announcement describes the site's change from that equestrian center into an education and community hub. It also lists expanded public programming, including Discovery Days, after-school programs, equine education, and six horse shows planned for 2026. The 7.5-acre facility has its own address, 905 Arlington Drive. Most programs are free or low-cost, and it also offers equine-assisted therapy and fee-based horse boarding.

That Thursday evening, the pumpkin patch in Lot C still has free parking, because it doesn't charge for parking until Friday.

The pumpkin patch price changes on Friday

The Seasonal Adventures Pumpkin Patch runs through October 31. Admission is $25 every day, and children 2 and under get in free. That ticket covers the inflatable slides, kiddie rides, petting zoo and train, with no extra tickets needed. Parking is free Monday through Thursday and $15 Friday through Sunday.

Weekday hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Friday runs 4 to 10 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Halloween the patch closes at 7 p.m., and pets aren't allowed. A household of four, all older than 2, pays $100 in admission on any day. On a Tuesday after school, that's the whole bill. On a Saturday it's $115, and the extra $15 has to be paid in cash.

Free-admission weekends still charge at the gate

The Sugar Plum Arts & Crafts Festival fills the Costa Mesa Building November 6 through 8. It's the festival's 48th year, with more than 185 artisans selling holiday décor, garden accents, antiques, jewelry and baked goods, plus free photos with Santa or Frosty the Snowman. Admission is $5 only during the early preview on Friday, November 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. It's free after 11:30 a.m. that day and all day Saturday and Sunday. Parking is $15 all weekend. For most visitors, the parking fee is the only thing they pay before they start shopping.

The OC Japan Fair, October 16 through 18, works the same way for some households. Tickets cost $15.71 through October 15 and $17.85 during the event. Visitors 6 and under or 65 and over get in free, and parking is $15. If a grandparent takes a preschooler, they pay nothing at the ticket booth and $15 to park. The fair spreads across the Anaheim and Los Alamitos buildings, the Main Mall, the OC Promenade and Lot I. Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The program lists Japanese food and shopping, cosplay, tuna-cutting shows, traditional music, games and kimono-model meet-and-greets.

Every fully free entry on this list happens on a weekday, while the $15 parking charge applies on weekends, Friday evenings and ticketed nights.

Centennial Farm is free all year, except during the big events

Centennial Farm explains why the free weekday visits are more than a fall special. The three-acre working farm has fruit and vegetable gardens, livestock and the Millennium Barn. It's open to the public weekdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free and you don't need a reservation.

The farm's hours exclude holidays and "all-grounds events," and the farm's own calendar lists those closures. The busiest weekends on the grounds are the ones most likely to change its schedule, so check that calendar before planning a farm stop on the same weekend as a large event.

On Friday, October 30, the farm hosts its own Discovery Day from 9 a.m. to noon. Admission and parking are free, and you need a reservation. Activities include self-guided tours, radish planting, lessons on chicks and crops, an oxen demonstration and time with the livestock. Taken with the October 15 Ranch morning, that gives the grounds two free, hands-on animal mornings in about two weeks, both on weekdays.

The 21-and-over nights cost the most

The late-October nights are where the cost goes up quickly. Boo Ha Ha – Zombie Homecoming takes over the Main Mall, The Hangar and Baja Bar & Grill on Saturday, October 24, from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. It's strictly 21 and over, with more than 100 craft beers from over 30 breweries, live music and costumes. Advance tickets are $65 general or $90 VIP before taxes and fees. Day-of prices go up to $75 and $100, and parking is another $15.

The Nightmare Halloween Party runs from 10 p.m. on October 31 to 2 a.m. on November 1 in the Costa Mesa Building. The listing describes DJs, a 40-foot stage, light shows, photo booths, food, and four bars for guests 21 and older. It says the general admission price varies, and parking is $15. On Halloween the pumpkin patch closes at 7 p.m., so the grounds switch from the family crowd to the late-night party in the same evening.

Arriving without a car

Since the $15 fee is charged per car and cash only, the way you arrive matters. The fairgrounds' maps page puts rideshare pickup and drop-off at Gate 1 off Fair Drive, with public bike racks near the Blue, Green and Yellow Gates. Biking in costs nothing on any day. On Sugar Plum's free Saturday, a household that lives within riding distance pays nothing to get in, the same as at Thursday's market.

December brings more weekend charges

The holiday season keeps the same pattern. Centennial Farm's DIY Winter Wreath class in the Millennium Barn on Saturday, December 5, has two sessions, 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m. The $85 fee covers materials and instruction, and the online RSVP deadline is November 29.

Winter Fest OC advertises live bands, Santa, snow play, nightly tree lighting, a light trail and a 150-foot tubing hill. Unlimited ice skating is listed as new for 2026. Its site lists parking at $15. The official 2026–27 dates and hours are posted as an image, so check the site directly before you plan a night around it.

A home's value also depends on what's nearby, like a free Thursday market or a working farm a short bike ride away. If you own near Fair Drive or Arlington Drive and want to know what your home would sell for today, Justin Tye Real Estate Group can prepare a free home valuation based on your block and the latest Costa Mesa sales.
